At MIIZA, every creation tells a story.

Today, we are proud to unveil an exclusive collection of handcrafted pieces from the heart of Mexico. Blending ancient traditions with contemporary inspiration, these works embody the cultural richness, the strength of ancestral gestures, and the soul of a people shaped by clay, embroidery, and wax.

🌎 A Journey Through the Regions of Mexico

From the deserts of Baja California to the highlands of Hidalgo, each piece reflects a region, an artisan, a technique. These rare treasures are crafted entirely by hand, in very limited quantities, using natural materials and time-honored methods.

Bertha Blanco Zárate — Tlaloc Collection

In Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca, Bertha Blanco Zárate transforms the region’s red clay into white without using any paint, thanks to a unique and natural process. Her pieces are white on the outside, red on the inside — a dual identity that evokes the nurturing earth and the spirit of transformation. The Tlaloc Collection, named after the rain god, beautifully expresses the bond between nature and the divine.

José García Antonio (Don José) — Don José Face Vase

A renowned sculptor from San Antonino Castillo Velasco, Don José lost his sight but never his connection to the clay. Guided by memory and touch, he continues to shape expressive face vases. Alongside his wife Teresita, who adds intricate details, each piece is a heartfelt tribute to love, resilience, and artistic legacy.

Olivia León — La Paz Plate

From La Paz, Baja California Sur, Olivia León crafts minimalist ceramics inspired by the serene coastal landscapes of her region. Each plate is a gentle expression of peace, shaped with precision and soul.

Sabi Sabi — Sabi Sabi Plate

In Cuernavaca, the artisans of Sabi Sabi create ceramics with natural pigments, merging organic textures with contemporary design. Each piece is a meditation on imperfection and nature’s beauty.

Rufino Cruz & Zoila Rodríguez — Cruz Jar

High in the Sierra Mixe of Oaxaca, Rufino and Zoila work with local Mixe clay to create powerful, grounded pieces. Rooted in indigenous tradition, their pottery reflects authenticity, memory, and cultural pride.

Doña Leticia Rivera — Luz de barro Candleholders

In San José Gracia, Michoacán, Doña Leticia handcrafts delicate candleholders using pastillage, a traditional ceramic technique. These airy, floral pieces evoke the sacredness of light and elegance.

The Otomi Embroiderers — Otomi Embroidery

In the mountains of Hidalgo, in Tenango de Doria, Otomi women spend weeks — sometimes months — hand-stitching vibrant tapestries. Their intricate designs, featuring alebrijes, plants, and everyday scenes, are visual stories passed down through generations.

Ana María Alarzon — Coquihani Collection

In Santa María Atzompa, Ana María works with red clay, firing it using a reduction method to bring out deep, earthy tones. A mother of nine — eight of whom are also potters — she is a beacon of family heritage, passion, and generational artistry.

Estela Cardoso — Barro Negro Collection

From San Bartolo Coyotepec, Estela Cardoso sculpts Oaxaca’s famous black clay. After a high-temperature underground firing, she polishes each piece with pyrite, revealing a signature dark sheen — a hallmark of this age-old craft.

The Wax Artisans — Sculpted Floral Candles

In Mexico City, our candle artisans sculpt soy wax candles by hand, embedding them with flowers, leaves, and lace-like wax. Inspired by mystical rituals, these poetic creations bring light, meaning, and delicate beauty to any space.

The La Diosa Artisans — La Diosa Candleholders

Crafted from natural clay, the La Diosa candleholders combine organic forms and sculptural lines. Each piece bears the mark of the artisan’s hand — a raw, elegant presence that blends earthiness with refinement.
